About Us
Loch Leven Park became reality in the early 1990’s with the acquisition of a couple of thoroughbred mares that had produced winners of good group class races. With my husband being a retired jockey this seemed like a good way to keep a hand in the business with out the high physical demands.
After a few years and two children our breeding interests changed to coloured horses and ponies with the purchase of two piebald Shetland ponies and a lovely part arab pinto. These horses were extremely successful in the show ring with many Champions and Supremes to their names.
As my daughter grew and her passion for horses fast became an obsession we decided to move into bigger horses. We soon purchased three medium-sized unbroken ponies to break educate and sell on as we had found that genuine kids’ ponies were virtually impossible to buy, or advertised for very large prices. The three ponies Carinya Park Blue Magic, Conway Park Maestro, and Bimbadeen Mascot were broken, educated, and shown with huge success before being sold to various points of the continent, Far North Queensland, South Australia and
Tasmania.
Since then we have moved to two different states, first spending 10 years in Victoria where we went into breaking and training children's ponies as a business. We specialized in under 14hh breaking and selling our own as well as taking on varying client horses from unbroken to those needing a tune-up. Through this business we were able to use the funds to develop our property into a professional facility, harbouring an 80m x 40m sand arena, 20m sand round yard, wash bay, stables, tie-ups with patience posts, paddocks all featuring rubber lined sheds as well as holding yards and fully fitted foaling yards with flood lights.
Our personal herd of ponies was made up at the time of 2 Quarter Horses, 1 Standardbred, 1 Paint and 6 Shetland Ponies. In 2016 we added a beautiful shetland stallion to our herd in "Lynvale Lodge Boban" who really put our name on the map. He arrived as an ugly duckling who had sat in a paddock. We worked with him and got him broken in, he was a timid pony who seemed to have had a hard time previously. He came to the party and upon Briahna losing her good Shetland Pony gelding "Caramia Kansas" (read his story on the Sparkie's story page), it was time for "Jed" the stallion to make his mark. His phenomenal results as a 3yo colt and 4yo stallion can be found on the "Our Stallion" page. Since then we have enjoyed breeding awesome coloured shetlands out of our herd and have many happy new owners purchasing our youngstock. Our foals are now selling prior to birth or on live delivery and we have a waiting list.
After 10 years in Victoria we sold up after the COVID19 outbreak settled and fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to Queensland in February of 2022. The past 12 months have been spending time cleaning up a new property and working on putting in all the facilities we had in Victoria. We have so far built a fantastic undercover washbay and tie up and have our arena bulldozed off ready for grading and toppings put on. Briahna has started competing in barrel racing with her fabulous little QH Lewie. We are still breeding and selling beautiful shetland ponies, although we are downsizing to 4 mares due to Briahna's new business commitments. We look forward to the next 12 months!
